Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) Stipend

Aftercare participants who left foster care after May 1, 2006, and who have a high school diploma or GED may be able to qualify for a monthly stipend to live in an approved living arrangement such as in an apartment, a college residence hall, or with former foster parents.

 

To qualify for the stipend, a PAL participant must be attending college or in a work training program or working. Regular (twice monthly) meetings with your Self-Sufficiency Advocate are also required.

Payment:The monthly stipend will be issued according to the following guidelines:

  1. 1. The PAL stipend will be based on the needs documented in the self-sufficiency plan/ budget and their net income. The maximum amount they may receive is $574.00.
  2. 2. When the net earnings of a youth in PAL exceed the maximum payment, the stipend will be reduced the following month by $0.50 for every dollar earned over the maximum payment. (calculated quarterly)
  3. 3. If the youth has unearned income that exceeds the maximum payment, a youth is not eligible for a stipend.
